A 53-year-old man has been accused of killing Blake Newland, a 17-year-old.
On Saturday night, the man was charged by detectives from the Major Investigation Team of the Police Service of Northern Ireland in connection with the teen’s death in Limavady.
Blake was taken to the hospital last Sunday, June 23, at 11:10 p.m. with stab wounds to his chest.
The accused man is scheduled to appear tomorrow, Monday, June 24, before Coleraine Magistrates’ Court.
The Public Prosecution Service will assess the charges, as is customary.
in Thursday morning, mourners flocked to Blake’s grandmother’s home in Shanreagh Park in Limavady for a private memorial service.
He was then buried in Enagh cemetery
Earlier this week a court was told that he was targeted in a “revenge” attack.
Stephen (27) and Andrew McGlinchey (29) have also both been charged with his murder.
The brothers, with respective addresses on Dunmore Place and Roe Mill Gardens in Limavady, appeared before Antrim Magistrates Court on Tuesday, sitting in Ballymena, via video-link.
On Friday, Andrew McGlinchey was additionally accused with assaulting a police officer.
The two accused were placed on custody remand.
Two of Blake’s sixteen-year-old companions made separate appearances before the same court, where they were charged with intentionally and unlawfully causing great bodily harm on the night of their friend’s death.
Michael McGlinchey was injured on that particular night, which is the subject of the charges.
Stephen and Andrew McGlinchey are the children of Michael.
According to a detective sergeant testifying before the court, the two young people and Blake are suspected of assaulting Stephen McGlinchey and a buddy during a previous dispute that occurred just before 9 p.m.
