The Los Angeles Angels are ready to forgive and forget.
The Angels have signed veteran outfielder Jake Marisnick, the team’s official transaction log revealed this week. Marisnick is getting a minor-league deal from the team.
The 32-year-old Marisnick has played for nine different teams during his 11-year MLB career. While he has become increasingly more quiet at the plate – batting .225 with a .667 OPS in his last three years combined – Marisnick provides enough defensive ability in center field that he has stuck around in the bigs for this long.
That said, a lot of Angels fans still despise Marisnick. From 2014 to 2019, he was a player for the Houston Astros, a rival team. In 2019, he and Jonathan Lucroy, the Angels’ catcher at the time, had a controversial collision at the plate (watch the video here). As a result of the collision, Lucroy sustained a concussion and a broken nose, and Major League Baseball ultimately suspended Marisnick for two games. From then on, Marisnick would meet with harsh opposition each and every time he faced the Angeles.
Marisnick’s previous season’s residence may not have pleased the Angels supporters either. However, he is now a member of the Halos organisation and may soon get an opportunity to fill in as Mike Trout and Mickey Moniak’s backup in centre.
