BBC Sport pundit expects Rangers player to be sold after what he saw:

Kenny Miller believes Rangers will look to sign a new left-back in the summer after Ridvan Yilmaz failed to impress against St Johnstone.

Yilmaz was brought into the side in place of the rested Borna Barisic as Rangers ran out comfortable 2-0 winners on Wednesday (20 December).

Despite the ease with which the much-changed Gers won against their 10-man opponents, the Turkey international was a weak link on the left side of defence.

Speaking on BBC Scotland [20 December, 22:05pm], Miller criticised Yilmaz’s display and added: “I think that will be something that’s addressed in the summer.”

Replacement needed

With Yilmaz’s Ibrox career never really taking off and Borna Barisic’s future looking uncertain, left-back is certainly an area that needs addressing.

Thankfully for the Gers, St Johnstone offered absolutely nothing – not helped by Diallang Jaiyesimi’s sending off – and this was therefore a routine victory.

If Yilmaz was to get the nod against tougher opposition, though, he will be badly exposed on the basis of his performance against the Saints.

The 22-year-old too often took the wrong option, and the crowd made their frustration known on more than one occasion.

It does not help Yilmaz that his team-mate on the opposite flank, James Tavernier, so often makes a telling difference for the Gers.

As a back-up, Yilmaz will remain a decent enough option going forward. But a top-class left-back has to be one of the priorities for Philippe Clement going forward.
