Birmingham City’s board weigh up a decision on Wayne Rooney’s future:

There was more dissent after the final whistle against Bristol City.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Wayne Rooney’s main priority in their latest game was to keep a clean sheet.
  •  Birmingham City managed to do that successfully against Bristol City.
  •  But fans were angry at their latest result amid a very poor run under Rooney, who hasn’t been a success at St Andrew’s thus far.

Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney has revealed his main priority was to keep a clean sheet against Bristol City last night, following fan anger after their 0-0 draw against the Robins.

Blues have struggled under Wayne Rooney, winning just two of their 14 games under his guidance which is an extremely poor record considering the Midlands side were in sixth at the time of John Eustace’s departure.

Eustace ended his reign by registering back-to-back wins against Huddersfield Town and West Bromwich Albion, leaving supporters in a buoyant mood going into the October international break.

But the controversial managerial change meant this feeling didn’t last for much longer, with scepticism about Rooney’s appointment growing following some poor results.

He faced a very tough start to life at St Andrew’s considering he took on some strong teams during the early stages of his reign, but even recent results haven’t been that great.

An away win at Cardiff City could have been the catalyst for a better run of form, but Blues are still struggling at this point and there’s even speculation about the Manchester United legend’s future now.

With his abysmal win rate and supporters getting more and more agitated, with their anger being displayed once again last night, Rooney could be in big trouble in the coming weeks unless he can turn things around.

There are no excuses for him considering Blues brought in some top-quality additions during the summer window.

Rooney on Birmingham City fans’ anger: “That’s football”

This isn’t the first time Rooney has felt the anger of supporters.

Responding to last night’s dissent, he told Birmingham Live: “That’s football and sometimes when you are conceding goals you have to make a decision on if you want to go full out and try and score three, four goals every game.

“We have been scoring goals but we really had to prioritise our defensive play today to make sure we were solid. That was our game-plan and a priority for us today.
