Callum Lang claims that Wigan Athletic will ‘take ownership’ of their current issues while avoiding dwelling too much on the drawbacks.
Latics, who are currently second-to-last in League One after losing five or six straight league games, travel to Stevenage this weekend.
It’s been a challenging few weeks after a strong start to the campaign, but Lang is certain the tough times won’t stay.
“You will have difficult times during a season when you have such a young side,” he remarked.
“People may forget how strong of a start we had too quickly when you’re going through a difficult moment.
“It’s clear that we’re experiencing a period where things aren’t working well for us, but we’ll fix it as soon as we can.
“It’s a difficult period, but we’ll get through it and resume playing at our previous level, ideally beginning on Saturday.
Lang is maintaining perspective despite the ups and downs of this season after helping Latics win the League One championship two years ago.Lang, one of Shaun Maloney’s five-man “leadership team,” continued, “I think there’s always going to be that expectation with the start we had and the talent we have in the squad.”
“We know we’re a terrific team, so the way we started wasn’t a fluke or accident.
But every good team experiences periods when things don’t go their way, and we’re currently experiencing one.
“Toward the conclusion of the season, when we were having trouble getting results, we had a phase similar to this when we won this league two years ago.
Therefore, even if we’re not pleased with the direction things are headed, we are certain that as a team, we can change that.
“The manager’s view has not changed; it is still optimistic.
We pay attention to both the things we accomplish well and the areas where we know we can make improvements.
I believe we’ve been unfortunate lately, so we need to be careful not to dwell too much on the bad.
We had bad luck in Burton, and it’s a difficult area to visit.
Burton was a challenging location to visit two years ago, and we lost that night as well.
“This time, the group is lot younger, and I also don’t think certain decisions made on the day have helped us.
But rather than blaming it, we’re taking responsibility for it and focusing on our controllable variables.
