Brian Carney links ‘genius’ Paul Rowley to vacant Hull FC head coach position

In the meantime, Simon Grix is in charge on an interim basis, with new Director of Rugby Richie Myler confirming he has the role until the end of the current season. Grix is also a ‘prime’ candidate for the job on a permanent basis, as explained by Myler earlier this week.

Sky Sports rugby league host Brian Carney has reported that Hull FC have identified Paul Rowley to become their next head coach. The Black and Whites are on the lookout for a permanent fix after parting ways with Tony Smith last week.

Rowley, who has done a tough job with Salford Red Devils, is reportedly one of the names on Hull’s three-man coaching shortlist, according to Carney. Rowley, who was once a head coach at Leigh and the Toronto Wolfpack, is widely considered to be one of the best in the game. Myler has said that selecting a head coach is his first priority.

Carney made the following statement ahead of Friday’s Super League action: “I just wonder, and you’ve heard it all before, whether Richie Myler, the new director of rugby at Hull FC, will have a close eye on Salford Red Devils head coach Paul Rowley.” Hull lost 58-0 at St Helens, ending their season in 11th place.

The Salford Red Devils have had players plucked and chosen from their roster, and they won’t want us guessing about that. I’ve heard that Hull FC has their eye on him.”

Jon Wilkin, on the other hand, believes Rowley is a “genius” and is unsurprised that Hull would choose the Salford coach to be their next head coach.

“Why wouldn’t you?” Wilkin continued. “Despite having little, he is a genius. Given Hull’s limited resources, who is the greatest at extracting and discarding every last trace of moisture off your team? It’s Paul Rowley, then.”

In their pursuit of a new head coach, Hull is keeping things under wraps. Myler and Adam Pearson have both said that the process will be brief and that an appointment will be decided upon soon.

It’s known that Hull would rather have a British coach with extensive Super League experience. In the event that a new man is hired, it will be the sixth different coach of the 2020s, underscoring the necessity for consistency as they attempt to resume their upward trajectory.
