Brondby chief declares final statement on Celtic transfer hits final’

The 21-year-old attacker is a long-term objective of the Scottish Premiership leaders.

Carsten V. Jensen, Brondby’s manager, has announced that Mathias Kvistgaarden would not be sold this month, despite interest from Celtic.

The Danish striker has sparked strong interest over the last two transfer windows, and an offer worth more than £4 million was reportedly rejected in the summer to bring the 21-year-old to the Scottish Premiership. Brondby have been desperate to keep him, and they have been rewarded with seven goals and seven assists so far this term, with the club in the midst of a three-way race for the Danish Super League crown alongside Copenhagen and leaders Midtjylland.

And the club is doubling down on that stance, appearing unwilling to let the vital player leave during the winter break. Jensen was questioned by Danish site Bold about the prospective sale of Kvistgaarden, with Brendan Rodgers’ team and Schalke widely connected with a January approach. He stated, “We are in a strong financial position, and we must take advantage of the sporting success we achieved in the autumn.”

“We made the choice to start a transfer window in which we will not sell our finest players. In other words, we will not sell out on the opportunity we created in the autumn to go all the way this season in the Super League.
