Celtic hero ‘keeping fingers crossed’ for Ireland job

The Celtic hero hasn’t had a job since Omonia Nicosia, a Cypriot team, fired him last year because of his bad performance.

Stephen Kenny resigned as manager of Ireland following a disappointing Euro 2024 qualifying campaign, leaving the country without a manager at this time.

Furthermore, Lennon has expressed his interest in the role. He told PLZ Soccer, “No, not yet, but it is something that I would value and would be very interested in, no question,” in response to the question of whether he had been contacted about the position.

“Like all these jobs there will be a plethora of outstanding candidates so it will be a process. There will be a shortlist and they will be working through it.

“I am keeping my fingers crossed that I will get an opportunity to speak to them.”

The competition to recruit Celtic sensation Rocco Vata is intensifying in the meanwhile.

The 18-year-old, whose contract at Celtic Park expires in the summer, is reportedly attracting interest from a number of clubs.

According to the Daily Record, Frosinone is the most recent Italian team to express interest in the young international for the Republic of Ireland.

Vata and Celtic are still in negotiations for a new contract, but it’s said that Vata has been dissatisfied with his lack of first-team opportunities and is open to looking for a challenge elsewhere.

Should he fail to sign new terms, then he could leave for a bargain price of just £350,000 in training compensation.

Torino are already interested in the wide attacker, with Italian clubs seemingly keen on tapping into the Irish youth market.

Now, this report says that Frosinone scouted Vata when he was away with Ireland’s U19s earlier this month.

Nottingham Forest of the Premier League is interested too, with several other clubs believed to have watched the Hoops talent.
