Charlton assistant sends warning to Bristol Rovers fans momentum

Bristol Rovers visit a Charlton Athletic team that is winning and trying to get into the playoffs.

Curtis Fleming, the assistant manager of Charlton Athletic, has urged his team to “turn up” for tomorrow night’s match against Bristol Rovers at The Valley, saying that anyone can defeat anyone in League One.

Nathan Jones’ team has closed the distance on the play-off spots to just two points after winning five of their past seven League One games. The South-East London team also has a game in hand over sixth-place Barnsley.

The Addicks enter tomorrow’s matchup with the Gas having defeated Bolton Wanderers and Shrewsbury Town in back-to-back games. They needed a thrilling goal in the 96th minute from Thierry Small to defeat Salop at home the previous time out, doing Rovers and their relegation opponents a favour.

“I’m really, really happy for the lads and for the clean sheet,” Fleming remarked in response to Charlton’s victory over Shrewsbury, as reported by the South London Press. I believe that during the entire previous season, we only received five. Therefore, having 11 is excellent and provides us with a solid base.

“The win is huge for us. Everyone is talking play-offs but we just need to be the best version of ourselves.

“We can beat anybody in the league – but anyone can. You have to turn up. Yes, we are looking at the play-offs but Bristol Rovers is the next game (on Tuesday). There is nothing won yet. We aren’t anywhere yet.

Each of the three points is significant. You only get that 10-second rush when the final whistle blows and you start jumping around, because the players and supporters go off and celebrate tonight, but our minds are already focused on Bristol Rovers. After that, you move on to the next.

The Gas will be hoping to bounce back from their humiliating 2-0 loss at Wigan Athletic on Saturday afternoon after securing back-to-back league victories of their own.

Rovers’ standing in the relegation battle did not deteriorate due to other outcomes, such as Charlton’s victory over Shrewsbury. They still have a seven-point lead over the bottom four and are in 18th place, unable to move up the league table since Exeter City, in 17th place, is four points ahead.

Even though they saw some improvement during Inigo Calderon’s first month in charge, their status remains uncertain.

In their quest for an unbelievable third straight League One double against the Addicks, they do have a positive historical record against Charlton, having won the last five meetings. However, their hosts will be trying to maintain their position in the running for a top-six finish, while they are trying to get away from the relegation zone.
