Beloved Duke basketball alum Justin Robinson is back in Durham to stay.
Justin Robinson, who began his Duke basketball career as a walk-on but went out in style with a prolific performance in a home win over archrival UNC on Senior Night in 2020, is now a member of Jon Scheyer’s staff in Durham. On Tuesday night, the program announced that Robinson is the new director of player development.
Robinson, son of NBA legend David Robinson, spent the past few years playing overseas.
“Justin Robinson embodies the values of our program as well as anyone,” Scheyer, who was a Blue Devil assistant under Mike Krzyzewski during Robinson’s Duke basketball career, said in a statement. “His work ethic, knowledge of Duke basketball culture, and professional experience will be invaluable to our current players.
“This is the perfect example of what ‘The Brotherhood’ is all about. I’m excited to have him back at Duke.”
The 27-year-old Robinson sounds equally excited.
“This is an incredible opportunity,” he noted, “to be a part of the team that Coach Scheyer is building and the program that I have such a deep connection to. My main goal is to help players grow — on and off the court.”
Scheyer’s assistants are Chris Carrawell, Jai Lucas, Emanuel Dildy, and Will Avery.
Over the years, the director of player development position has often been a stepping stone to becoming an assistant coach.
The Blue Devils, presumably with Justin Robinson in tow, are currently in Arkansas to face the Razorbacks on Wednesday at 9:15 p.m. ET as part of the inaugural ACC/SEC Challenge.
