When Kofi Shaw was sent off in the 75th minute of Yeovil’s New Year’s Day encounter against Forest Green Rovers, Mark Cooper once again lamented the officiating. Ryan Inniss’s goal in stoppage time gave the home team a 2-1 victory, but the Glovers were well worth their 1-0 lead until the final.
In an interview with BBC Somerset’s Jack Killah following the game, Cooper commended his team’s performance, saying, “We were excellent in the first half. With the ball, [we] controlled the game. [We] defeated a very strong team and caused
them numerous issues, and we were deserving of our victory. The game switches to another controversial choice. I don’t know what it is, but I believe that if you give a pen to the big boys, who are considered big boys in the league, you give them ten a game. Although [Kofi Shaw] obviously kicks the ball, you could argue that he doesn’t have to. Is the box containing it? Very, very controversial. Therefore, I doubt that you can impose a punishment for that.
Cooper added that there had been a handball during the action that led to the corner from which Forest Green Rovers scored their winning goal: “Well, there was a handball.” However, they will claim that “it was accidental.” But pay attention, they will make amends as they go along and ensure that Forest Green receives a ruling.
Cooper stated that the club had decided on a “really good one” and that he was working on “freshening” up the squad over the following ten days, with only Michael Smith and Finn Cousin-Dawson deployed from it and two goalkeepers on the bench.
“We performed incredibly well today. We wanted to play like that, and we were fantastic in the first half. However, when we looked at the bench, we didn’t have a lot of places to replace and clean it. In the upcoming ten days, we will be working on that. A pretty nice one has been decided upon, and [we are] still pursuing a left-sided wing back.
