On Boxing Day, the away end at Ewood Park gave the former Sunderland player a warm welcome.
Danny Batth has expressed gratitude to Sunderland supporters for their response to him on Boxing Day at Ewood Park.
On December 26, Blackburn Rovers and Sunderland tied 2-2 in the Championship, with former Black Cats defender Batth starting for Blackburn Rovers.
For the first time since quitting the Black Cats 15 months ago, the 34-year-old, who was promoted to the Championship with the team in 2022 under Alex Neil, took on Sunderland. Despite being at Norwich City the previous season, Batth did not play in either of the 2023–24 games.
After joining Sunderland in January 2022, the former Middlesbrough and Stoke City defender made 55 appearances across all competitions. Batth only made 16 appearances in the Championship the previous season, despite signing a one-year contract with Norwich City two windows previously.
On Boxing Day, though, the centre-back from the Midlands solidified his status as a mainstay for John Eustace at Blackburn Rovers by playing his 17th league game of the season against his old team. Additionally, Batth recently played in more than 500 professional football games.
After the game, Sunderland supporters gave Batth a warm welcome, and he went across to cheer on both the home crowd and the 7,500-strong away crowd at Ewood Park. Batth thanked the Wearsiders on social media for their response to him following the game. With two applauding hand emojis, Batth wrote: “Thanks @sunderlandafc for the reception.”
Sunderland’s next Championship matchup is against Stoke City on Sunday afternoon at the Bet 365 Stadium.
