Danny Röhl on Wednesday’s transfer miss-out to Sheffield United – and signing decision they’ll made late

With The Star revealing Scottish international midfielder Stuart Armstrong as a deal the club is increasingly confident of completing, the Owls are moving behind the scenes to secure the reinforcements they need as they approach Monday’s deadline. Danny Röhl has spoken philosophically about the targets Sheffield Wednesday missed out on during the current transfer window and optimistically about what can be accomplished in its final days. Additional targets are reportedly still in play.

It comes after a mixed week in which Sheffield United, a city rival, overshadowed Ipswich Town’s loan move for defender Harry Clarke. Aston Villa attacker Louie Barry, another loan consideration, signed with Hull City; but, according to The Star, the Owls did not formally attempt to get him for S6.

Asked about Wednesday having missed out on targets throughout the window, Röhl shrugged and maintained a relaxed disposition.

“I won’t talk about names,” he declared. “These are their own decisions; they chose to relocate to this club or this club. Naturally, there were some players on the list, but occasionally you can be certain about a player, but there are other factors at play as well. It’s all about the packaging, and there’s always a significant market issue.

However, we must overcome these obstacles. Naturally, we will be optimistic and observe what transpires over the following few days.

Before the transfer window closes, Wednesday is rumoured to be looking to bolster their defence and attack. While a move for Armstrong appears likely, Japanese left-back Ryo Hatsuse, who had a successful trial period with the team earlier this month, is another serious public target. With his contract expiring this weekend, it is anticipated that the 27-year-old will be available on a free transfer.

When questioned if Hatsuse is still taken into consideration, Röhl replied, “Yeah.” We will decide on that late in the window. It is a possibility; his initial impression has been positive, and we will consider the market and the squad’s overall image before making a wise choice.
