Dermot Gallagher’s vedict on Burnley penalty claim..

As Odobert raced towards goal, the winger was stopped in his tracks by the Seagulls full-back.

On first viewing it appeared the Brighton man might have won the ball first, but replays showed that wasn’t the case.

According to Gallagher’s analysis of the incident on Sky Sports’ Ref Watch, Brighton was fortunate to escape punishment.

That’s the verdict of former referee Dermot Gallagher, who felt Pervis Estupiñán was a little fortunate to avoid punishment for a foul on Wilson Odobert inside the box.

“It’s an interesting one because I didn’t think it was a penalty when I first saw it,” he said.

However, after rewatching it, I believe that he should have been given a penalty because he did not actually touch the ball. I initially believed he had the ball, but his tackle causes him to miss it. After taking Odobert down, he uses his second leg to retrieve the ball.

“He’s fortunate, but it’s a difficult decision. Regardless of the referee’s decision, many would have argued that it ought to have gone the other way.

Sue Smith, a different panellist, thought the Clarets were not given a clear spot kick.

“I believe it is a fine,” she uttered.

He touches the ball after grabbing the player. He removes the player.

“I understand that you have to try to get past the player as a defender, but I think he takes the player out to win the ball again. I considered it to be a definite penalty.
