The Miami Dolphins face a looming decision on what to do with quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, and one analyst believes they will reach a “reasonable” one.
The quarterback is coming off a season where he led the league in passing yards and earned a Pro Bowl nod, but questions remain about his durability and ability to get the team to the next level. While general manager Chris Grier has said that the team wants Tagovailoa in Miami for the “long term,” Pro Football Network’s Adam H. Beasley predicted that the team would hold off on giving him a mega deal like the one Joe Burrow landed.
Dolphins are expected to offer an outright reasonable deal.
Grieg stated that the team has been in communication with Tagovailoa’s agent regarding a contract extension during his press conference that concluded the season. Before the team collapsed late in the season, losing three of their final five games and blowing a three-game lead in the division before missing out on the wild card, the quarterback, who just finished his fourth NFL season, garnered some early MVP buzz this year.
Beasley projected that the Dolphins would be in the driver’s seat in the negotiations because they have a fifth-year option and the potential for two franchise tags, which would allow them to retain Tagovailoa’s rights for an additional three years at a cost of $135 million.
