Future Duke basketball weapon Isaiah Evans brings to mind Brandon Ingram, but Evans sees at least one slight difference.
Similar to Brandon Ingram in 2015, Isaiah Evans is a slim, silky, long-limbed five-star prep from North Carolina who signed his national letter of intent with the Duke basketball program. And countless scouting reports on the North Mecklenburg High School wing compare him to that 2015-16 Blue Devil one-and-done.
What does Evans think of the comparison to the now-eighth-year NBA Blue Devil and possible two-time All-Star for the New Orleans Pelicans, who is ranked No. 13 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite—ten spots lower than Ingram’s final ranking as a recruit—about it?
The 6-foot-6, 170-pound powerful bucket-getter gave League Ready a direct answer to that query when they spoke at the most recent City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida.
“I understand the physical makeup,” Evans said. “I don’t really believe that I am winning the game. I consider [Ingram] to be a very good driver and mid-range shooter. He’s not too bad at making threes, you know.
“But I think my game is more predicated towards the three ball.”
In his most recent games, he has demonstrated his three ball skills.
Not all of the five-star prospects slated to arrive in Durham the following season are Isaiah Evans. Along with four-star Darren Harris, he will be joined by fellow early signees Cooper Flagg (No. 1 composite ranking), Kon Knueppel (No. 16), and Patrick Ngongba II (No. 22) in addition to possibly one or two others. For the time being at least, Duke’s five-deep haul is the best in the nation.
