Duke Recruit Mastermind Best Big Man in Country’

Patrick Ngongba II would be ranked far higher than sixth among 2024 centres by the head coach of Duke basketball.

On the 247Sports 2024 Composite, centre Patrick Ngongba II of Paul VI Catholic High School (Virginia) just signed with Duke basketball. He is ranked 22nd overall, second in Virginia, and fifth at his position.

However, the 6-foot-11, 235-pound Ngongba is the best 2024 potential at the post in the opinion of his future head coach.

Jon Scheyer declared, “Pat is the best big man in the country,” in a series of films that Duke basketball released last week to mark the signings of their five early prize winners. “He is a player with exceptional scoring ability. We adore him because of his extraordinary talent.

“He’s a great passer. He can really handle the ball. And he can really shoot from beyond the three, as well as score inside. Right hand, left hand, he has great footwork. He’s a high-level rebounder.”

As a somewhat agile big, his drive and productivity appear infectious.

“He’s somebody that just when you play with him, he really makes everybody better on the court,” Scheyer said. “And because of his long arms and excellent timing, he can block shots when playing defence. He’ll be a force down low for us. However, I’m eager to mentor Pat. He’s going to play a major role at Duke.”

He’ll be joining at least three other five-star Duke basketball recruits in Durham come summertime: forward Cooper Flagg of Montverde, Florida; forward Kon Knueppel of Wisconsin Lutheran; and forward Isaiah Evans of North Meck, North Carolina.

Not to mention Darren Harris, a four-star forward and Ngongba’s teammate at Paul VI Catholic.

Of the five, Patrick Ngongba II was the most recent to commit to Scheyer & Co. with his commitment two weeks ago. He visited the Blue Devils twice throughout his recruiting, including the weekend of Countdown to Craziness.
