Prior to the Eagles’ games against the Panthers, DeVonta Smith was given a significant injury update.
It appears that ‘Skinny Batman’ is on the right track after missing the last two weeks of action due to DeVonta Smith’s hamstring injury. On Wednesday, the pride of Alabama will return to practice against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Smith was listed as a full participant on the injury report, which was first reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. As a result, he is anticipated to participate in Week 14, when the Eagles host the 3-9 Carolina Panthers in the afternoon.
Even though Smith has only played in nine Eagles games this season, he is enjoying a respectable season as Philadelphia’s WR2, averaging 57.3 yards per game and recording 516 yards and four touchdowns. With some poor defences still on the schedule, it might be difficult to reach 1,000 years for the third consecutive season after missing three games this season, but you never know.
Although Smith’s health seems to be improving going into Week 14, Dallas Goedert’s situation is far more uncertain as he is regarded as week-to-week following a knee injury sustained against the Baltimore Raven.
When asked about his current situation and how a more seasoned player like C.J. Uzomah could replace him on the field, Sirianni praised the former Jet for being a nice teammate, despite the fact that he hasn’t yet done anything on the field to win over Philadelphia supporters.
As the week goes on, we’ll see on [TE] Dallas [Goedert]. Veteran, in regards to [TE] C.J. [Uzomah]. He is an excellent teammate. Everyone agrees when you reflect on his past and speak with the teams he has played on since joining this one: What a fantastic teammate. I believe you could ask his teammates what kind of man he is, especially those in the offence and tight end room, and they would all agree: Excellent teammate. Guy with glue. has utilised some of his opportunities and performed admirably on special teams,” Sirianni told reporters on Wednesday.
“Had a really good play in four-minute the other day that he came through and led through on a block on a really good player and was able to get movement there. He just brings veteran reliability, and, again, bringing guys together on the football team. And then, he’s had some big production where we know if we can throw him the ball, he can do something with it and make plays. And then what he does as a blocker.”
On paper, if Goedert isn’t able to go in Week 14, the onus would likely fall on Grant Calcaterra, not Uzomah, to step up as the Eagles TE1. With that being said, having a veteran reserve like Uzomah to deploy in 12 personnel or even in heavy packages alongside E.J. Jenkins could prove beneficial down the stretch, as the Eagles will need all hands on deck in Week 14 to avoid a disastrous trap game loss against an ascending Bryce Young.
