While Fulham will undoubtedly be prepared for interest in a few players this summer, few could have predicted that Rodrigo Muniz would be attracting attention from elite teams.
It’s hard to recall a rise similar to Muniz’s in a Fulham jersey.
The Brazilian struggled last season while on loan at Middlesbrough and was hardly noticeable in the first half of the game.
If Fulham had loaned Muniz out again in January to get him regular playing time, very few people would have been shocked.
But Marco Silva never wavered in his belief in Muniz’s potential, and it has now paid off.
Muniz scored his eighth goal in his last eight Premier League games with his spectacular strike against Sheffield United on Saturday.
There aren’t many strikers who can currently match Muniz’s form, so perhaps it shouldn’t come as a surprise that rumours about his future are starting to surface.
Rodrigo Muniz rumours
On social media, Brazilian reporter Mauro Sant Anna claimed that Chelsea and Liverpool were both interested in Muniz.
Although it’s unclear if Sant Anna can be trusted, she may have some insider knowledge about Muniz because she primarily covers Flamengo, the striker’s previous team.
We would be inclined to argue that this kind of speculation is a little premature.
Yes, Muniz is currently playing at an incredible level, and reports of interest from other parties were inevitable.
We believe Muniz would benefit more from remaining at Fulham, where he could continue to grow in a more secure setting.
Muniz’s game still has room for improvement, and staying at Craven Cottage to hone his skills rather than departing after eight games might be the best course of action for his long-term career.
No Muniz talks planned
Some might wonder if Fulham would extend an offer to Muniz for a new contract as a result of these rumours.
Fulham is at ease with the situation, according to manager Silva, who told the London Evening Standard that talks are not in the cards.
Fulham has the option to extend Muniz’s contract by one year, until 2027. Currently, Muniz is under contract until 2026.
Although Muniz’s pay are said to be on “modest” terms, Silva is unwilling to rush negotiations and risk “disturbing his run” in front of goal.
According to Silva, the contract has an option for an extra year and he signed for five years in 2021. “Are we going to take any action this summer, or in the upcoming season? We must bide our time. In regards to that, we are at ease. “Situations such as contracts won’t interfere with his run,” he continued.
Although we don’t see Chelsea or Liverpool spending a lot of money on a player this summer, if Muniz finishes the season on this high note, a new contract will undoubtedly be offered to him shortly.
