With Lewis Miller on international duty with Australia at the Asian Cup and Chris Cadden still on his way back to full fitness following an eight-month injury lay-off, the 19-year-old right-back joined up with the Easter Road squad on their recent mid-season training camp in Dubai. And, having impressed manager Nick Montgomery, the club have opted to curtail his loan spell with the Championship side.
Megwa joined Airdrieonians on loan from Hibs in September 2023 and went on to make 14 appearances, winning the Player of the Month Award on two separate occasions during his short spell.
Watching Kanayo at Airdrieonians and during his time with us in Dubai has truly impressed Montgomery, she said. “He has excellent training, a positive attitude, and many valuable skills as a player.
“Kanayo returned to the team a more confident and enhanced player after an incredible loan period during which he made significant progress.” This is the ideal illustration of how some of our younger players can profit from loan spells.
“We now have another option at right-back with Cadds returning from injury and Lewis Miller away with the Australian national team. I’m sure we can give him opportunities in the second half of the season.”
Despite having played for Airdrieonians in the same competition earlier this season, Megwa will not be present in this weekend’s Scottish Cup matchup against Forfar Athletic.
