Diego Alonso has been confirmed as Sevilla’s next head coach, with the Uruguayan signing a contract until the end of the season.
Alonso replaces José Luis Mendilibar, who was fired on Monday after the club began the La Liga season with a 2W-2D-4L record, putting them in 14th place.
Alonso has previously coached Pearol and Bella Vista in Uruguay, as well as Olimpia and Guarani in Paraguay.
He has also coached in Liga MX, where he guided Pachuca and Monterrey to CONCACAF Champions League titles.
Alonso was named Inter Miami’s first head coach in 2019, ahead of the club’s maiden MLS season in 2020. Alonso and the Herons mutually agreed to part ways after leading them to a 10th-place finish in the Eastern Conference.

Alonso has been without a job since December 2022, when he resigned as Uruguay head coach after failing to get out of the group stage at the World Cup.
The 48-year-old has a long coaching record in North America, but the Sevilla job represents his first coaching position in Europe.
