‘He’s won us the trophy’ Butland sings Tavernier praises after Hampden glory’

Jack Butland was overjoyed after helping Rangers upset Aberdeen in the League Cup final at Hampden.

Here’s what he had to say to Viaplay Sports.

What are your thoughts?

I’m completely overwhelmed. For me, this has been one of the best weeks in football. It would have been simple to become fatigued and complacent after Thursday. We’ve already had it tough against these guys this year, and the boys have come through. It was a difficult game; it did not go as smoothly as we would have liked, but they put up a fight and made things difficult for us, and as the captain does, he pulls us out of jail and wins the game. I can’t thank him enough for bringing us the trophy him enough and it’s another trophy for Rangers.

And your first one for Rangers…

Yeah, emphasis on the first!

The shift in the changing room, what changes has the manager made since he’s come in?

It’s always been there and I know people will argue the start of the season didn’t look like that but honestly, it’s been there the whole time. We were a little bit lost but the effort, the intensity, the quality of the group and the character, it’s been there. We were just a bit lost and the manager has come in and simplified a lot and given us some confidence back. It’s shown in the time that he’s been here and now we’ve got a trophy to show for it and the last 16 of the Europa League so we’re chuffed.

Is it too early to target a double or a treble?

We’ll do what’s next tomorrow but today we’ll enjoy this, everyone else should enjoy this and we’ll do what’s next tomorrow
