The Portuguese wide man has resurrected his Easter Road career since Lee Johnson’s departure
Jair Tavares confesses that his Hibs exile under Lee Johnson had a significant mental influence on him, saying, ‘I lost my passion for football.’
During Johnson’s tenure, the Portuguese wide player was completely shut out and appeared to be on his way out in the summer. However, the advent of new manager Nick Montgomery has given the ex-Benfica starlet new life, and he is currently prospering for the Hibees.
Tavares has established himself as a staple in Monty’s side, starting the last eight Premier League games, a stunning turnaround since Johnson’s dismissal at the end of August. While everything is wonderful for the 22-year-old today, he admits he was beginning to lose interest in the game after being kept out in the cold for so long.
“I’m happy again,” he told the Edinburgh Evening News. I had lost my enthusiasm for football a few months earlier. But I’m rediscovering myself, gaining confidence every weekend, and doing more and more to aid the squad. That is the most crucial consideration.
“But I know I have to keep this up, to keep working hard to improve with each game.” That is what I have done in order to return. That is what I shall do in the future. There is no such thing as having too many games or an overly hectic schedule. For me? Everything is fine.
“Obviously, I enjoy working with the gaffer and the rest of the coaching staff.” They, along with the rest of the staff, are doing a fantastic job of restoring my confidence. I’ve rediscovered myself.
“I still need to improve every day because I know I can perform better and contribute more to the team.” This is only the start. I can go to the next level, and that’s what I’m hoping for. The key is to continue working hard. I believe I’ve been getting better every week. But the main thing is to keep going.”
