Luke McCormick sends emotional Bristol Rovers message after FGR switch

Following his loan move to Forest Green Rovers, Luke McCormick has sent a message to Bristol Rovers and their supporters.

The move was completed this afternoon, with McCormick joining the Green Devils on a loan deal through the rest of the season. Earlier today, Football League World exclusively announced that the midfielder was expected to join the National League team.

Steve Cotterill’s team is currently enjoying a 15-match winning streak in the National League and is well on its way to an instant return to the Football League.

Cotterill will be hoping McCormick can further improve the already very strong fifth-tier team by adding Football League quality.

McCormick delivers heartfelt message to Bristol Rovers fans

McCormick has become a regular feature in the Rovers squad since making the move to Bristol from AFC Wimbledon back in 2021/22.

He has subsequently made 57 League One appearances for the Gas, but he hasn’t had many chances to start this season.

As the new manager looks over his options, Bristol Rovers has welcomed a new manager, which frequently results in a shuffle in the playing roster. However, this hasn’t been the case with Inigo Calderon, who still doesn’t see McCormick as an important member of his team.

The fact that McCormick was not used as a substitute in Rovers’ most recent league match against Cambridge United brought home this point, which might have a significant impact on the fate of a number of teams near the bottom of the League One standings at the end of the season.

Earlier this afternoon, McCormick sent the following sincere statement to the team and its supporters on his X account following the announcement of his departure from Memorial Stadium.

“Best wishes for the second half of the season! There is more than enough in that locker room to have a successful second half of the campaign,” he remarked. Thank you to the Gasheads.

The 25-year-old’s contract with Bristol Rovers is currently due to expire at the end of the season.

Bristol Rovers face a fierce battle to stay in League One

McCormick departs the Memorial Stadium with Rovers facing a vitally important few months ahead of them.

Despite the recent win at Cambridge, Calderon’s men find themselves firmly in the midst of what is shaping up to be a huge scrap for survival in the third tier.

Just seven points currently separate Crawley Town, in 22nd, and Wigan Athletic, in 17th, with the Gas currently occupying the all-important 20th spot.

They sit just five points clear of Gareth Ainsworth’s Shrewsbury Town in the final relegation spot, who will be buoyed by last night’s derby win over high-flying Wrexham at the Croud

It goes without saying that the Gas must avoid any more of those runs if they are to finish above the dreaded dotted line come May. Rovers’ disappointing run of seven league games without a win came to an end with the Cambridge victory.

Calderon’s first senior men’s football position is with Rovers, and the Spaniard needs to make sure he adjusts to the role fast and well because even the most seasoned managers may be impacted by the stress of a survival battle.
