Medical book underway as Blades beat Sheffield Wednesday to Premier League transfer for Arsenal man

Prior to this weekend’s matchup with Derby County, Sheffield United is expected to beat out city rivals Wednesday in the pursuit of a Premier League right-back. Since his present team, Hertha Berlin, dug in their heels over his future, United has abandoned its pursuit of Jonjoe Kenny.

Instead, United acted swiftly to arrange a deal for Harry Clarke, a 23-year-old right back who has made seven appearances for Ipswich Town this season. Bramall Lane currently appears to be Clarke’s most likely destination ahead of a loan agreement until the end of the season, as The Star disclosed yesterday Wednesday had confirmed their interest in him into a formal offer.

We can disclose that, in anticipation of a move, Clarke is having a medical with the Blades today. Hopefully, it will be approved in time for this weekend’s trip to Pride Park. For Clarke to be eligible to play in that match and maybe make his United debut, he must register by Friday noon.

In January 2023, Clarke, who started his career with Portman Road Club, was acquired from Arsenal for an estimated £1 million. Additionally, he is not the only Ipswich player who has drawn interest from United this transfer window.

As United looked for a center-half replacement for Harry Souttar, we know that Luke Woolfenden, a powerful defender for Ipswich Town, was also on their radar.

But Ipswich are fighting for their lives in the Premier League and United were told that they plan to keep Woolfenden in Suffolk ahead of a crucial second half of the season.
