Middlesbrough get transfer green light after deal agreed for top target & medical book

Following the completion of a loan agreement with Bournemouth, Mark Travers is expected to be Middlesbrough’s next acquisition. The custodian will go to Teesside for his physical.

It’s a huge boost for Boro, who made acquiring a custodian their top priority in the last week of the transfer window after Sol Brynn and Seny Dieng suffered significant injuries.

The Championship team had to exercise patience in their pursuit of Travers, who was Boro’s top target. The Cherries held off on making the deal until third-choice keeper Will Dennis had fully recovered from his injury.

On Tuesday night, however, the move was approved, and Travers was on his way north to finish the move. Until the remainder of the season, he will be on loan.

In addition to playing 70 league games for Bournemouth, Travers, a four-time Ireland international, had a brief but successful loan stint at Stoke City the previous season. This season, he has made five appearances in the Premier League.

With Tom Glover as Michael Carrick’s lone senior option following Brynn and Dieng’s injuries, Boro had to sign a keeper this week.

Travers’ arrival will be a major boost to what is turning out to be a successful and outstanding finale to the January window on Teesside, if there are no last-minute hiccups. Morgan Whittaker, George Edmundson, and Ryan Giles all signed last week, and Boro is still looking to bolster their midfield before the deadline on Monday.
