New manager confirm as Grimsby Town new boss

Before the Spireites’ return to Sky Bet League Two play away to Grimsby Town, Paul Cook told the media, “We’ve had a really tough run haven’t we.” We’ve probably lost three and a half games since the Fleetwood game, but I felt we played the game (Rotherham) pretty well.

“Over the holiday season, I have enjoyed every game. Although I haven’t been pleased with the outcomes, I have appreciated the players’ character, their drive to run, and the fact that several of them have played out of position.

The margins simply didn’t work out for us, notably Bradford and MK Dons. That just has to do with the games themselves; it has nothing to do with injuries. We’re on a horrible run, but that’s not a concern.

“We are currently in our best moment because we have guys returning, but we are also coming off of a really tough moment with the injuries.

“We’ll be fully prepared for what I hope will be a very strong push for the last portion of the season in a week or two.”

Looking at Grimsby, Cook added: “We’ve got to be careful because David Artell knows my team, he’s a very astute manager. We’re getting lads back now that have trained for a day or two. So to our fans I ask them to be patient with us for another week or so.

“In a week or so, we will be back to being, in my opinion, one of the strongest squads in this division. And we’ve still got enough games to try our best to get where we want to be.

“We’ve got a difficult game tomorrow. I’m looking forward to going to Grimsby. I felt when they left here earlier in the season, that we were very fortunate to beat them. I thought Grimsby were excellent on the day.

“In my opinion, they’re one of the best teams we’ve played this season without a shadow of a doubt.”
