When asked on BBC Radio Wales Sport if more signings were possible in January, Jenkins responded, “Not with the number of players we’ve got.” Newport County chairman Huw Jenkins says it’s unlikely the club will make more signings in the January transfer window following a big recruitment drive in the summer. The Exiles signed 17 new players in the first full window of Jenkins’ tenure as chairman, after Nelson Jardim took over as head coach. County has focused on signing younger players to lower the average age of the squad, and Jenkins expects Jardim to work with what he has.
We’ll stick with what we have because we had a lot of players in (over the summer).
“We are unable to invest hundreds of thousands of dollars on players. The group is now younger thanks to the addition of younger players. Obviously, they are less expensive.
After defeating Crewe 1-0 at Rodney Parade to snap their three-match losing streak, County is now in 12th place in League Two, one point outside the top seven.
Jenkins stated before to the game that Jardim is not under any obligations to place County in the top seven.
Jenkins continued, “You want to win every game you play.”
“I think football is easy. Every game you play you should attempt to win. And if you do it, and do it well, the points will take care of themselves and the table will indicate what you’re achieving.
