Nils Koppen lay the foundations now for Rangers to sign Bristol City forward summer transfer’

BristolLive reported on its website on Tuesday (6 February) that there have been “speculative links” to the Gers and Old Firm rivals Celtic for the Scotland U-21 international, while Premier League clubs have also been “monitoring” the forward’s progress.

Speaking to BBC Radio Bristol on 2 February, the Robins’ technical director Brian Tinnion revealed that the club are doing all they can to get the 21-year-old to commit his future at Ashton Gate beyond 2025.

“We’ll put in a lot of effort to try and tie Tommy Conway down; he has a year in the summer,” Tinnion stated. “But we have everyone contracted in a pretty stable team, with the exception of Tommy and the three boys.

“We’ve spoken with the agent, and we’d like to speak with Tommy and the agent once again. Tommy Conway should be under contract with the football team.

Tommy is a great guy, a good player, a goal scorer, and a big part of our team, therefore we’ll be working extremely hard from now on to get him signed by the football team.

After making 38 appearances during the season, the Bristol City academy product finished with 12 goals and four assists, solidifying his spot in the starting lineup.

He recently made news when he scored in the FA Cup match between the Robins and West Ham, drawing 1-1, and then scoring the game-winning goal in the replay against the Premier League team.

Given that the Gers are eager to add a younger forward to their roster, such performances most likely drew the attention of any prospective suitors.

Conway may be a player the Light Blues are keeping an eye on ahead of the summer, though it’s unknown if they inquired about his availability during the January transfer window.

In 26 games, he has eight goals to his name for Bristol City this season as he looks to help his side challenge for a place in the English Championship playoffs.

Conway could fit the bill, but any interested clubs may have to move quickly as a cut-price deal may be on the cards if he doesn’t commit his long-term future to the Robins by the time the summer comes around. It will be interesting to see what happens with the forward over the next few months as the interest could continue to grow in him if he puts in the necessary work. After Rangers failed to bring in a new striker on a permanent basis in January, Koppen will now be searching the market for a potential bargain. The new technical director of recruitment is looking to identify younger talents that the Gers could potentially make a profit on in the future in more eye-catching performances across the rest of the season.
