David Jurasek ready to seal Rangers move with bid now on table

Rangers have made a “good offer” to sign Benfica defender David Jurasek on loan in the January transfer window, according to TEAMtalk.

The website reported [17 January] that, despite an offer from a Bundesliga club for the defender, Rangers are in a “strong position”, having already made their move.

It is understood that Jurasek is open to moving to Scotland, while the deal could be finalised as early as next week, with Benfica only interested in a loan deal.

Clement has made it very clear that the left-back position is an area of weakness, with extreme stances on both Ridvan Yilmaz and Borna Barisic, who have both been linked with moves away from the club.

The latter’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season anyway, which would mean the Gers need a new left-back before the summer.

And despite having only made 12 appearances for Benfica since moving to Portugal from Slavia Prague in the summer, Jurasek has Champions League experience on his CV and already has five caps with the Czech Republic.

With nine goals at senior level, the 23-year-old could present as the attacking full-back option that Clement is searching for, to imitate the job that James Tavernier does on the right flank.

The Belgian will hope that their early offer will help persuade Benfica to agree to a deal before any other clubs are able to snap him up, including a Bundesliga side and several English clubs.

In other Rangers news, a £4.8million bid update has emerged as development occurs in Gers’ quest to seal a January signing.
