The body of Michael Wheeler was discovered over a month after his disappearance.
Five individuals have been charged with the death of a man whose body was found more than a month after he was last seen, and a trial date has been set. In September, a search was conducted for Yeovil resident Michael Wheeler, who had not been seen or contacted since August 24.
On September 16, concerns were voiced regarding his well-being. On September 25, Avon and Somerset Police searched a house in Yarlinton, Somerset, and discovered his death.
Four men have been charged with Michael Wheeler’s murder: David Garland, 39; Jack Rance, 28; Mark Roberts, 38; and Reuben Clare, 18. They and 32-year-old Angus Warner are also accused of conspiring to kill Mr. Wheeler.
The five offenders have been placed on remand in custody, appeared before Bristol Crown Court on Friday. Judge William Hart said a plea and trial preparation hearing would take place on January 31, while a trial had been listed for April 28.
The judge declared that the defendants would not be released from custody.
“The defendants are charged with conspiracy to murder Michael Wheeler on or before August 24 this year,” prosecutor David Elias KC said the court. With the exception of Mr. Warner, they are all accused of killing Mr. Wheeler. These crimes are still being investigated.
“The investigations at the location where Mr. Wheeler’s body was discovered on September 25 are still ongoing, of course.”
Mary Cowe represented Clare of Yeovil during the court, while Alistair Haggerty represented Garland, who did not have a fixed address, and Will Rose represented Rance, who did not have a fixed address either. Edd Hetherington represented Warner, of Crewkerne, while Robin Shellard represented Roberts, of Yeovil.
