Rangers ‘strongly rejected’ £11m bid in 2020 but deal could now finally happen

Ryan Kent, a former winger for Rangers, is supposedly on the verge of leaving Fenerbahce, as his longtime supporters Leeds United attempt to save him from his Turkish nightmare.

To say that Ryan Kent’s time in Istanbul hasn’t exactly gone as planned would be an understatement of the highest kind.

Think about the player who departed Ibrox on a free transfer when his Rangers contract ended in July. If you believe Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers have had a difficult time since their summer transfers, consider their situation.

The seldom seen wideman has now gone three months without starting a game in Turkey’s top flight, despite having a strong start to life at Fenerbahce. And watching Kent lumber onto the field with barely a minute remaining in last weekend’s goalless draw with Adana Demirspor only served to fuel rumours about his potential mid-season exit.

Turkish reporter Yagiz Sabuncuoglu asserts that Kent has admirers back in England and Scotland, although he does not name these alleged suitors, and believes Fenerbahce may accept loan bids in the New Year.

But TEAMtalk aren’t feeling too mysterious just now. According to reports, Bournemouth and Leeds United are willing to provide the former Liverpool youth a way out. Even if Ross McCausland’s rise and Abdallah Sima’s form make a stunning comeback to the Rangers seem implausible, it is still possible at this point.

Leeds United has always been a fan.

You will recall that throughout his time in Glasgow, Leeds repeatedly pursued Kent. Marcelo Bielsa appeared to be fixated on a player who excelled during Rangers’ 2021–2022 Scottish Premiership-winning season, led by Steven Gerrard.

In 2020, Gerrard confirmed to Sky Sports that Leeds had contacted them, despite their offer of £11 million being less than Rangers’ expectations. “A very firm opening bid has been turned down.

“The opening bid is far below the valuation, that is the message to Leeds.”

It is possible that Fenerbahce won’t be as inclined to hold onto a player who has only started five games since leaving Rangers, should Leeds make another move after Christmas.
