Portsmouth remain the only unbeaten side left in League One and sit pretty at the top of the table after 10 games. John Mousinho’s side extended their impressive run with a 2-1 away win against Wigan Athletic.
With Mousinho in command, Pompey have started the season well in the past but have since faded from contention for promotion. However, they have developed into a difficult team to beat and may challenge for the top slots this year.
Wycombe Wanderers beat Carlisle United at home to recover from their loss to Charlton Athletic. After winning four of their last five games in the third division, they are now in ninth place.
Sam Vokes and Luke Leahy’s goals gave the Chairboys the victory and kept Carlisle winless for the fourth game in a row.
Here are some of our writers’ predictions for the match.
Charles Ray”
Positive signs are in for Portsmouth. They haven’t lost in the league since March, and at Fratton Park, the optimism is rising as they try to make the long-awaited move out of the third division.
“The hosts will have hurdles as Wycombe visits, but I don’t believe they’ll be obstacles they can’t overcome.
“Managing the pressure as the season goes on will be a new challenge, but there’s a fantastic vibe around Pompey.
“Wycombe, however, is enjoying a strong run of their own and should be optimistic about halting the hosts’ fine form. But Mousinho’s team is getting better and better, therefore I’m backing Portsmouth to score another three points.
John Phelps
“Pompey’s season might very well be this one. They’re performing well lately, and they’re looking as good as they’ve ever looked in League One.
“However, the greatest challenge of all is to make it last the entire season. The hardest games are those where Pompey should win on paper, like this Wycombe match.
“Wycombe is a good team that has improved during the season. But compared to Pompey, they have a poor road record.
“Home victory for me, too.”
Prediction for Portsmouth versus Wycombe Wanderer: 2-0
