Road closed after crash as two confirmed dead in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Norfolk Police say a woman was arrested and charged with driving under the influence following a crash that killed two of her passengers over the weekend.

Around 1:50 a.m. on Sunday, dispatch received a report of a single vehicle collision in the 4200 block of Granby Street.

When the responders arrived, they found two women with potentially fatal injuries. After being taken to a nearby hospital, they were both later declared dead.


According to the investigation, the driver struck a pole when the car was travelling south on Granby Street.

The names of the two women who perished in the crash are Sateya N. Baker, 19, and Jendaya C. Hunter, 25,. They both live in Suffolk.
A third passenger, a lady in her 20s, was reportedly taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to the police. We anticipate her being alright.

The driver, later identified as 21-year-old Tahlia C. Ricks, sustained non life-threatening injuries. Police arrested Ricks at the scene. She is accused of driving under the influence.

Investigators say they believe speed and alcohol appear to be factors in the crash.
