Rossvale have extended the lead at the top of the SWF Championship to 14 points after coming from behind to beat Ayr United 2-1 in Cumnock.
Claire Docherty gave Ayr United the lead right away in the opening minute of play when she pounced on a rebound after McBlain’s free kick was saved. Sarah Ferguson in goal was playing well to keep Ayr ahead for the first half, and the team appeared keen to cling on.
In the fiftyth minute, Rossvale was given a penalty kick, and league leader Megan Whiteford scored flawlessly from the spot. Lauren Coleman, the captain of Rossvale, put the visitors ahead before Ayr could reply, and the Glasgow team held on for what might be a big victory in their promotion campaign.
In other games, East Fife defeated Westdyke 8-1, Morton and Dryburgh Athletic drew goalless, and Renfrew easily defeated Hutchison Vale 11-0.
Following a 3-0 victory over St. Mirren at home, Stenhousemuir climbed up to the top of SWF’s League One on goal differential. Falkirk, their rivals, defeated Giffnock 8-0 to maintain third place. With a 3-1 victory over Queen of the South, Bonnyrigg Rose’s Chelsea Lowe and Saffron McCabe scored two spectacular goals in injury time to give their team a lead in the standings.
In the regional SWFL, Kilwinning defeated Dalbeattie Star 5-2 to grab the top spot for the first time after Harmony Row’s 3-2 comeback against leaders Ayr United Development in the South league.
With a 4-0 victory over Arbroath, Inverurie Locos increased their lead at the top of SWFL North. Elgin City, in second place, drew 1-1 with Westdyke Thistle, and Glenrothes Strollers, in the Fife derby against Dunfermline Athletic, moved back above their rivals in the standings, trailing leaders Armadale Thistle. In the SWFL West, Drumchapel Utd defeated Cumbernauld Colts 5-0.
