Sheffield United close to signing £15m La Liga striker’

The Blades are in the market for a new forward and Chris Wilder is looking to move quickly to land someone.

Wilder has signed off on a deal to see Benie Traore move to Nantes. However, it looks like he’s also moved quickly to replace Traore.

Sheffield United close to signing Ben Brereton-Diaz

According to reports in Spain, which have now been confirmed by The Sheffield Star, United are close to signing Brereton-Diaz from Villarreal.

The attacker will play against Valencia tonight before flying to England to seal his deal to Bramall Lane.

Brereton-Diaz joined Villarreal in the summer after scoring 16 goals for Blackburn the previous season and 23 the year before. However, he is yet to sign with the La Liga club.

The Chilean international was lauded by Tony Mowbray as an ‘extraordinary‘ forward during his time at Ewood Park.

He appears to be on his way back to England as he attempts to find his scoring touch.

Previously, Everton manager Frank Lampard desired the striker. However, because to a £15 million demand by Blackburn, no transaction was ever completed.
