With 12 goals, a cup victory, and two thrilling Glasgow Derbys where both teams have shared a victory in the Scottish Premiership this season alone, Celtic and Rangers supporters consider the Glasgow Derby to be among the biggest and best in all of football.
Even though Celtic has won the league handily, this season’s most talked-about games have been the Glasgow Derby.
However, both Celtic and Rangers supporters will laugh at a statement made by Dundee striker Simon Murray on the Dundee Derby.
Simon Murray claims Dundee vs Dundee Utd is better than Celtic vs Rangers games
Speaking before Celtic’s draw with Dundee, Murray said the Dundee Derby has been the best derby in Scotland ‘for years’.
Murray told The Courier, “That’s the one, if you’re from Dundee, you’re a Dundee player, that’s the game for me.
“Probably the best derby in the country in terms of entertainment. Has been for years.
“And to be a part of that will be amazing. I see it’s sold out. So the fans are right behind us and I’m sure theirs will be, too.
“We’re at home and we just have to enjoy it and hopefully get the three points.
“For any player, when you’re a kid and get to play in games of that magnitude.”
Comparing Dundee vs Dundee United and Celtic vs Rangers as both derbies come under the spotlight
Let’s start with the Dundee Derby. Both teams have faced each other just 50 times since 1980 with the Dens Park side winning just 14, losing 21 and drawing 15.
Dundee has scored 71 goals compared to United’s 89 with the largest wins being two 6-2 victories for the Tannadice club.
In contrast, the Glasgow powerhouses Celtic and Rangers have faced off 128 times over the same period of time, with the Hoops winning 62 and Rangers 47.
There have been 19 draws, and Celtic’s most recent victory in the League Cup final was possibly the most intense Derby ever.
The 6-2 victory at Celtic Park is one of the most memorable in the derby’s recent history, with Celtic scoring 199 goals against Rangers and the Ibrox club scoring 164.
Murray’s view is valid, yet the excitement generated by the Glasgow Derby is far greater than that of the Dundee Derby.
