Simpson says strugglers are ‘too nice’ A wake up call to the team#

Paul Simpson claims that more “nastiness” is required to stop Carlisle United’s losing streak on the pitch.

The manager of the Blues believed that his team lacked street smarts against a Leyton Orient team that possessed them in spades.

After losing 3-2, Carlisle fell to the bottom of League One, and with 16 games left, they are still ten points outside of safety.

The manager claimed that Ruel Sotiriou’s winning goal for the home team showed what Carlisle lacks.

The manager remarked, “To be fair, Theo Archibald miscontrolled, and it’s gone under his foot. It was a poor goal, but we have to just take him out at that point.”

  • LAST WORD: What did we learn from the Blues’ latest defeat?

“They did it really well. Idris El Mizouni did it, the full-back did it in front of us.

“They took yellow cards for the team really well and stopped any flow.

“No, we didn’t. We’re too polite. Nice teams fail, so we need to get better and inject some nastiness into our game. And that is the cause of our difficulties.

With 64 yellow cards and three red cards this season, Carlisle has the eighth-highest number of yellow cards in the division.

The fact that several of United’s fellow struggling teams are in action tonight could make their task even more difficult, but for now, the Blues’ attention is directed towards the daunting task of hosting leaders Portsmouth the following weekend.

Having signed seven first-team players during the January transfer window, Carlisle is in desperate need of a turnaround after losing their last five league games, which is their worst run since 2008.

Soon after the mid-season overhaul, Simpson acknowledges that a winning formula needs to be discovered.

He stated, “It has to happen very quickly, and all we can do is keep working with it and going into training.”

“I do believe we have some good players in for the long run.

“I believe we lost some good ones as well, like Joe Garner because of his personality, but we felt like we needed a little bit more energy, so Georgie Kelly was our choice because we believe she is someone for the future and the years to come.

“And because they’re good characters, I think Josh Vela and Harrison Neal are good additions.

Even though we aren’t offering Harry Lewis much protection just yet, I believe he is a good addition to the team.

We have made some good additions, in my opinion, but right now everyone has to step up to the plate because they are unable to accomplish it on their own.

Luke Armstrong is a goal scorer if we can give him opportunities. However, in all honesty, I don’t think he got a sniff on Saturday; he hasn’t had any.

Therefore, we must figure out how to support one another and everyone in their efforts to improve their own circumstances.
