Ross Stewart took another major stride towards recovery from injury on Friday afternoon.
Fans of Southampton will be thrilled to see the video from their team’s recent U21 match versus Sunderland.
Normally, the Saints’ youth games don’t generate much excitement for the team, but in their matchup with the Black Cats, Ross Stewart managed to score again.
On September 30, 2018, the deadline for the previous summer transfer window, the forward signed a contract with the South Coast club.
The Scottish player signed a contract for up to £10 million, although he hasn’t played a game for Southampton yet.
Despite missing the most of 2023 due to an Achilles injury sustained in January of last year, he made a significant advancement in the direction of a comeback on Friday afternoon.
Stewart is getting close to playing again, and his start against Sunderland U21 on Friday was a significant step in demonstrating his health.
Within seven minutes, the striker was back to his scoring ways, poking in from close range after getting on the end of a cross.
Russell Martin, who earlier this week hinted at a probable debut date, should be really happy with this news.
The Southampton manager is looking forward to seeing him join the squad and is optimistic that it will happen shortly.
Martin reportedly told the Daily Echo, “He’s really close.”
“Hopefully, it will be the West Brom game if it’s not next week.”
During his tenure with the Black Cats, Stewart was a formidable presence.
Through promotion in 2022, he was instrumental in leading the squad back to the Championship.
Last season, Stewart made 13 appearances in the second level and scored an amazing 10 goals, which helped Sunderland finish in the top six.

With Martin’s team at fourth in the rankings, Southampton will be looking to secure a top six finish of their own this season.
The Saints are looking for a quick return to the division after being demoted from the Premier League last season, having spent more than ten years in the top tier.
St. Mary’s has been playing well lately; Martin’s squad has won four and drawn two of their previous six league games, going undefeated.
There are 32 games left in the campaign, but it will be challenging to close the 10 point deficit to the automatic promotion spots.
The Saints’ next match is a Saturday afternoon trip to the Den to play Millwall.
