As Swindon Town’s season has seen its fair share of ups and downs, attention is now turning to the upcoming summer transfer window. With speculation growing, questions arise over which key players could attract interest from clubs higher up the footballing ladder.
Several standout performers in the squad have caught the eye, and a few names are likely to be on the radar of League One clubs and beyond.
Swindon Town fan pundit Ciaran Daniel shared his thoughts with Football League World on potential summer departures, highlighting three key players who could attract interest from higher divisions.
The most obvious name on the list is Harry Smith, whose impressive goal tally this season has made him a standout performer. Describing him as a “natural goalscorer,” Daniel believes there will be significant interest from both League One and League Two clubs. Given his form, he expects Smith to surpass 20 goals by the end of the season. Although Swindon deemed him “untouchable” in January, that stance could change if a substantial offer comes in.

Another player likely to attract attention is Joel McGregor, a talented young right-back. Despite being a scholar, McGregor has already proven himself at a much higher level. Daniel expects him to move on in the summer, potentially to a League One or even Championship club, as he is “far too good” to remain in League Two. Swindon resisted interest in January, with Ian Holloway declaring him untouchable, but a summer departure seems likely.
Lastly, Will Wright, an experienced centre-back, could also be on the radar of League One and League Two clubs. Beyond his defensive solidity, his ability to take set pieces and execute long throws makes him a valuable asset. While he may not move beyond League One, Daniel expects strong interest in him.
Daniel concluded that losing any of these three players would be a significant blow for Swindon, as they are key figures who should ideally be the foundation of next season’s squad.
