Take a look back at life in Ipswich 30 years ago..

Here is a nostalgic look back at life in the town 30 years ago including the demolition of Cliff Quay Power Station and the official opening of the Royal Mail sorting office in Commercial Road.

Cliff Quay Power Station marked the end of an era when it was dismantled, having been shut down nearly a decade earlier.

Constructed in 1949, the power plant ruled Cliff Quay for many years following World War II.

Despite its practical and utilitarian design, the River Orwell bank landmark grew in recognition.

After that, in 1982, it suffered damage in a terrible fire and was shut down three years later.

Also in this year, Ruth Rendell Mysteries, a TV drama which started in 1987 and aired for 11 series, was shot in Ipswich in 1994.

The year also marked the official opening of the Ipswich Royal Mail Sorting Offices on Commercial Road, when Ipswich Town star Bontcho Guentchev showcased his ball talents.
