The Ohio Head coach reveal details and reason behind Jack Sawyer punches Ohio State’s title-game ticket with strip sack of former roommate

In 2021, Quinn Ewers, a quarterback, and Jack Sawyer, a defensive end, were placed in the same room at Ohio State.

Three years later, in one of those fortunate turns of events that only sports can offer, their paths crossed.

Ewers, who is now the quarterback for the Longhorns, dropped back to pass with 2:28 remaining in the Cotton Bowl, and Texas down 21–14 on a fourth-and-goal. In one of the most remarkable moments in the Buckeyes’ lengthy history, Sawyer placed a vicious hit on Ewers, picked up the football, and ran 83 yards for a touchdown.

The play, which ended an incredible three-game run for Sawyer and virtually sent the Buckeyes to the national championship game against Notre Dame on January 20, clinched the 28-14 victory for Ohio State and, according to Sawyer, caused Ewers to yell, “Screw you!” as the quarterback left the field.

Sawyer, a Columbus native, was a second team All-Big Ten selection each of the past two seasons.

The Buckeyes allowed Texas to hang around for much of the evening, but it ultimately didn’t matter as they moved within a win of their first title since 2014.
