The Warriors fanbase’s belief that Kerr is a horrible coach who should be fired continues to amuse me. I don’t believe that Kerr entering the final year of his contract without an extension indicates that the franchise is even thinking about his future. Kerr may be, but it seems doubtful given his commitment to coaching the Olympics next year. The most likely explanation is that the team was focused on Klay, and no one on either side is concerned about how Kerr’s contract will be handled when the time comes. In my opinion, this is a non-story.
It’s devastating news for Payton, who was looking healthy and like his old self following a 2022-23 season defined by injuries (and injury mismanagement by the Portland Trail Blazers). And it’s a devastating loss for the Lakers, as Payton had established himself as one of their finest players on both sides of the ball, serving as a defensive threat, an amazing rebounder, and a fantastic cutter.
We’ll have to wait for an update from the Warriors to find out when Payton will be able to play again, given the severity of the tear is unknown. He’ll be gone for at least a few weeks, if not months.
