Preston and Bristol City are still for sale, although there is currently little chance of a fast agreement with either Championship team.
Matt Slater, a reporter for The Athletic, stated that despite the fact that the owners of both clubs have stated that they would be amenable to a sale, there is “no sign of a changing of the guard” at Deepdale or Ashton Gate.
Bristol City takeover latest
The Robins are owned by billionaire businessman Steve Lansdown, who has been involved with the club since 1996, and he was named as chairman six years later.
The team has improved over the last 20 years, but they haven’t been able to get to the Premier League.
According to a story from 2022, Lansdown was open to selling the club if the “right deal” was offered.
But according to the most recent information, there isn’t any real interest at the time, and Lansdown is still providing funding for the team as it works to advance under Liam Manning’s direction.
Preston takeover latest
Preston are owned by the Hemmings family, with Trevor Hemmings having saved the club when they were in a desperate situation back in 2010.
The club was given to his family after his untimely death in 2021, although there has been speculation in recent years that they would be amenable to a sale.
An American group was rumoured to be interested in purchasing North End earlier this year, but it didn’t work out.
The club is reportedly for sale, and Preston is “working with bankers” to “explore options” in relation to a sale or luring in additional funding.
However, nothing has happened once more, and when Paul Heckingbottom was hired earlier this season, the team is currently struggling at the bottom of the Championship.
Preston and Bristol City need fresh investment to kick-on
Bristol City and Preston are comparable in that they have both made a name for themselves at this level, but they haven’t been able to advance above this point in recent years.
In the interim, they have somewhat fallen behind as the Championship clubs’ financial might has grown.
Therefore, if a change of ownership brought more money and more ambition, both groups of supporters would ideally embrace it.
Having said that, you also have to admit that the people in charge now have accomplished a lot over the years and aren’t suffering as much as others have because the Football League has had a lot of poor administration throughout that time.
