One of Duke basketball’s two Paul VI Catholic prizes is not in action this week.
Four-star wing Darren Harris continues to shine for Paul VI Catholic (Va.), a prep powerhouse that has recently churned out two Duke basketball players in guards Trevor Keels and Jeremy Roach. But Harris’ teammate, fellow 2024 Blue Devil signee Patrick Ngongba II, is out of commission due to a foot injury.
Recruiting insider Adam Zagoria reported on Wednesday that Ngongba, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound five-star centre who is ranked No. 22 overall on the 247Sports 2024 Composite, had successful foot surgery in November. Zagoria spoke with Glenn Farello, the head coach of Paul VI Catholic, about the procedure.
Farello informed Zagoria, “Pat is recovering from foot surgery and is out indefinitely.” “We’re not sure when he’ll start playing again. It’s too soon to say.
In the meantime, Harris assisted in leading the Panthers in their inaugural game at the esteemed City of Palms Classic in Fort Myers, Florida, on Monday, as they defeated Millennium (Ariz.) 80-61.
With a No. 57 composite ranking, the 6-foot-6, 195-pound heralded sharpshooter finished his 23 minutes on the court with 17 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and no turnovers.
Along with three other players who signed their national letters of intent in November’s early signing period, Darren Harris and Patrick Ngongba II are expected to arrive in Durham the following year.
Included in that top-ranked Duke basketball haul is the cycle’s best overall prospect, five-star forward Cooper Flagg of Montverde Academy (Fla.). Not to mention two additional five-star seniors, Isaiah Evans of North Meck (N.C.) and Kon Knueppel of Wisconsin Lutheran, who are forwards.
