Wilder is convinced” – Pundit reacts to Blades plans for “asset

Despite Rhian Brewster’s difficulties in front of goal, pundit Carlton Palmer believes that Sheffield United’s decision to extend the striker’s contract is obvious.

With Brewster’s contract expiring this summer, Chris Wilder said this week that the Blades were aiming to sign him to a new contract.

Since joining Sheffield United in October 2020 for a rumoured sum of up to £23.5 million, Brewster has not signed a new contract.

New contract for Rhian Brewster “makes absolute sense” for Sheffield United

Although the former Liverpool player has received a lot of flak for his alleged lack of worth over the years—he has only scored seven goals in 105 games for the Blades—there have been some encouraging indications this season.

Palmer asserts the importance of protecting the value of their investment and feels that Sheffield United must take action to get Brewster to sign a new contract.

“Sheffield United and Chris Wilder confirmed that they have opened talks with Rhian Brewster about extending his contract,” he informed Football League World.

It makes perfect sense for them, so I’m not surprised.

He signed a five-year contract with the Blades in 2020 after leaving Liverpool for a club record cost of approximately £23.5 million.

Chris has hinted that the deal wasn’t for as much money as that, and it’s scheduled to expire in the summer.

The 24-year-old has had a difficult time at Bramall Lane over the years, but this season he has been making a significant contribution ever since Chris Wilder rejoined the team.

Therefore, I believe it makes sense for the club to safeguard its asset. His playing days are yet young. Chris Wilder is certain that the player has more in store.

“He has experienced injuries, which is an issue. His ability to get up and run has been hindered.

Rhian Brewster can repay Chris Wilder’s faith at Sheffield United

Palmer continued by acknowledging that any player would feel pressured by such a high price tag before bringing up Brewster’s injury issues.

Palmer, a former Sheffield Wednesday player, thinks a longer-term partnership with Wilder will only help him.

Palmer went on: “There’s also this problem that when you relocate with a price tag, you have to get off to a great start and be regarded as doing incredibly well.

He sustained injuries instead of doing that. And now that Chris Wilder has committed to a new, long-term deal, I believe he can contribute to the team in any league as long as he stays healthy.

From Sheffield United’s and Chris Wilder’s perspectives, they are undoubtedly safeguarding their asset.

You won’t just let a player leave for free after spending £23 million on him. We will therefore have to wait and watch how these contract negotiations proceed.

“Who wouldn’t want to work for Chris Wilder? He’s a brilliant guy.” Chris Wilder wants and will want choices in the frontline, so I believe there will be options.

However, (Rhian Brewster) can play in a variety of positions on that front line.

“I believe it’s a good move for Brewster because he can now unwind a little without having to move on to a new team and live with the stigma that it didn’t work out at Sheffield United.”

“I hope he can continue to have an influence, get better and better, and prove why Sheffield United bought him in the first place.”
