Wolves agreed January transfer swoop deal for Millwall player

As the Premier League underdogs try to bolster their defensive options in the January transfer window, Wolves are interested in Millwall defender Japhet Tanganga.

Wanderers’ campaign has been quite challenging thus far, and they are now one spot and one point above the relegation zone.

With Wolves giving up 42 goals in 19 games, defence is still an issue even though things have significantly improved under new manager Vitor Pereira.

Wolves keen on Millwall’s Japhet Tanganga

Therefore, bringing in at least one centre-back is a priority this month, and the Express has revealed that the Midlands outfit are looking at Tanganga.

The report states that Wolves are ‘weighing up a bid’ for the 25-year-old, who has top-flight experience having come through the ranks at Tottenham.

Intriguingly, they also state that Tanganga, who joined the Lions in January before agreeing to a long-term contract in the summer, has an agreement with Millwall that states they will evaluate any offers from Premier League teams. However, his contract makes no mention of a release clause.

Tanganga is reportedly being pursued by RB Leipzig as well, but he would rather remain in England.

Japhet Tanganga could play in the Premier League

This is not the news that Millwall fans would want to hear, as Tanganga is a quality operator at this level.

He had lost his way in his career before joining Millwall at the start of the year, but he clearly loved his time at The Den, as he signed a new contract a matter of months ago, and he continues to impress in the Championship

Anyone who has watched him play knows how good he is, so Wolves’ interest shouldn’t be shocking.

You would think that Pereira has selected him for the right-sided position in the back three because of his ability to physically overpower his opponent.

Millwall will undoubtedly try their hardest to keep him, but given his contractual status, they should profit handsomely if he does leave. Alex Neil is undoubtedly hoping to at least keep his star player until the summer.

From the player’s point of view, he will be indebted to Millwall for rekindling his passion for the game, but if a good offer comes along, it might be hard to decline the opportunity to join a Premier League team.

Tanganga’s primary priority right now is the Londoners’ home game against Oxford United tomorrow, but this could be something to keep an eye on.
