Report: Arsenal Reveal £30m Price Tag for England Star with Chelsea and Wolves Interested
The Premier League has been rocked by Arsenal’s unexpected move to demand a high price for keeper Aaron Ramsdale, which has left teams like Wolverhampton Wanderers and Chelsea stunned. Though Ramsdale did not finish first at the Emirates Stadium, the North London club has set an ambitious valuation on him, according to a recent revelation by TEAMtalk.
The goalkeeper’s few appearances during the previous season led to Arsenal’s choice. During the 2023–24 season, Ramsdale appeared in just 11 games, six of them were in the Premier League. This was mainly because David Raya, who is expected to cost £27 million to sign a permanent contract, joined from Brentford on loan. In spite of this, manager Mikel Arteta of Arsenal has expressed his intention to fight Manchester City by having two elite players at each position, suggesting that the team’s strategy is to ensure healthy rivalry within the squad.
Ramsdale’s Career at a Crossroads
Ramsdale, who is 26 years old and playing for England in the Euros, is at a turning point in his career. His lack of playing time is a hindrance to his ambitions to continue competing at the club and international levels, and it may even stall his progress as a world-class goalie.
Chelsea is reportedly interested in Ramsdale as a possible addition, as TEAMtalk’s story from earlier this month revealed, given the uncertainty surrounding Robert Sanchez, their current custodian. Wolves have also expressed interest, especially if Jose Sa, their preferred choice right now, decides to go.
Chelsea and Wolves Baulk at Arsenal’s Asking Price
The Gunners are hoping to profit from Ramsdale, aiming for a fee upwards of £30 million—a significant increase from the £24 million initially paid to Sheffield United in 2021. While this price point is within Chelsea’s financial reach, it is likely to see them start negotiations closer to £20 million, potentially leaving Wolves unable to compete. Journalist Pete O’Rourke notes that Chelsea and Wolves have been caught off guard by the financial demands set by Arsenal.
