Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney reacts to nightmare round’

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney was less than impressed with his performance as he endured a nightmare round of golf alongside some famous names.

WHAT HAPPENED?

McElhenney took part in the Farmers Insurance Open Pro-Am this week, although he proved that perhaps he isn’t great at absolutely everything he does. The Wrexham co-owner played 18 holes, nine with professional Max Homa and nine with Sam Ryder. However, the actor wasn’t too impressed with his performance.

WHAT MCELHENNEY SAID

After their round, McElhenney stated in a video posted to Instagram by ESPN golf expert Michael Collins: “Physically, I feel great.” I am an emotional disaster. I am smiling, but I am crying on the inside. You cannot notice it since I am an excellent actress. That [points to the course] is nothing but gorgeous, and this [rubs chest area] is a rotting cancer from hell… and that’s golf!”

THE BIGGER PICTURE

McElhenney was one of several big names taking part in the event, which preceded the start of the Farmers Insurance Open on Wednesday. USWNT star Alex Morgan took to the green with her husband acting as her caddie.

Despite his own grievances about his performance, Ryder was complementary about McElhenney and his celebrity teammates. “I see a lot of potential here,” he said.

WHAT NEXT FOR MCELHENNEY?

McElhenney clearly loves his golf, but it might be that running a football club alongside Ryan Reynolds is more his thing. That’s if Wrexham’s current position in the table is anything to go by; the Red Dragons are second in League Two and are on course to earn a second promotion in as many seasons. Up next for Wrexham is an FA Cup fourth round clash with Blackburn Rovers on Monday.
