Accrington custodian Club faces severe penalties after objects are hurled at him.

Following allegations that several Wrexham supporters threw vape pens, cigarette lighters and miniature alcohol bottles at Accrington Stanley goalkeeper Jon McCracken on Saturday, Lancashire Police launched an inquiry. The club has now requested that anybody who witnessed the event come forward and assist in identifying the people involved. Additionally, Wrexham has issued a warning, stating that such events may lead to “potential disciplinary action, increased policing costs and reduced ticket allocations for future games.”

The event took place in the second half of Wrexham’s League Two away loss to Stanley, which ended in a 2-0 score. When home custodian McCracken fell down following a collision with goalscorer Paul Mullin, Wrexham’s supporters reacted violently. Even though McCracken was unharmed, the incident caused the game to be stopped for more than ten minutes as objects were hurled at the goalie from the opposite end.

“We have a zero-tolerance approach to unacceptable behaviour at Wrexham AFC matches, home or away,” stated a statement released by Wrexham. We would like to express our gratitude to everyone involved for the wonderful assistance we have received this season. Nonetheless, we would like to warn everyone who attends games that the Football Club will impose the harshest penalties on anyone found guilty of acting inappropriately.”

Wrexham is awaiting the conclusion of the police inquiry and any ensuing sanctions from the Football Association or Football League. When they welcome Morecambe to the SToK Racecourse on Saturday, Phil Parkinson’s team will be hoping to go back to winning ways on the pitch.
